When Obama makes one of his major platforms closing Guantanamo bay and then declares he's prepared to hold detainees indefinitely without trial, or when failing to stand behind his efforts to reverse "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and giving the legal backing to the SCOTUS when a challange was issued to that, he's merely playing the game and retaining the political capital all elected officials love. Don't get me wrong, I've recently decided the Green Party is where it's at, so I have no love for conservatives by any stretch of the imagination. But it's important to understand that rhetoric and the ideology that's pushed by conservative propaganda is ultimately as self-serving as the party line of democrats, and true progressives find few heroes among wealthy elites who contort their message to get a few votes in the election year, while supporting the hegemony of their status.
